My Top Five......

For the first time in a long time I was having trouble thinking of something to put up on the blog tonight but then I checked Facebook (oddly enough not as bad as I thought it would be) and checked my notifications, or those little numbers at the bottom right of your screen.

First one that pops up is your Living Social - Top Five list.

For those not in the know it's right up my alley. You make a top five about almost anything, favorite movies, fast food joints, smells of summer. Like I said anything. The first few weeks it came out I must have buzzed through almost all the ones you'd think of but once I got to "Top Five Superpowers You'd Want" I thought it had run it's course.

So hooray I have a new ongoing segment I can go back to in case I'm stumped. Always good to have those in your back pocket.

So today I'll go with :

TOP FIVE FAVORITE SONGS (At the Moment)

A good qualifier since my IPOD has a very diverse collection of tunes on it and I always feel like I'm changing playlists constantly.

FUNNY THE WAY IT IS - DAVE MATTHEWS BAND

I got introduced to DMB during college like most people my age. Their first album, "Under the Table and Dreaming" was played non-stop during everything from parties to Caps tourneys. I even saw them in concert twice. They are the kind of band I love, very orginal sound, sort of a jazz, rock fusion. Boyd Tinsley made the fiddle cool. The band was hit with tragedy when saxaphonist LeRoi Moore died from complications in a ATV accident in 2008 but they pressed on and completed their tour and just released a new album with this as the lead track. It showcases their style.

LOST CAUSE - BECK

Yet another true orginal, Beck first hit it huge with me with "Where it's At?". He's another that mixes a variety of styles. I mean how many people play a glockenspiel? This song was a part of the Sea Change EP and it's all about the end of a relationship. Very haunting and beautiful.

NO TIME THIS TIME - THE POLICE

The Police are without question my favorite band. They only produced five albums to date but you never know what the future holds. I was doubly shocked when the reuinted and I saw them twice. The lyrics and the deft skills that each of the members possess at their craft is a sight to behold. Regatta De Blanc is one of my favorite albums and it simply rocks out. Stewart Copeland just destroys the drums in this one.

STIR IT UP - BOB MARLEY & THE WAILERS

It's Summer time and Summer means Bob Marley. I think beach and laid back times. "Legend" is one of the few albums that can be played at any spot and listened all the way through. This track some think is all about the chronic. How wrong they are. Actually it's quite sensual.

LET IT DIE - FOO FIGHTERS

The Fighters of Foo are another of my favorites normally for their kick ass screaming and strong guitar. You'll see some of that later as this one starts off slowly.
"A heart of gold
But it lost it's pride
Beautiful veins
And bloodshot eyes
I see your face
In another light"
Some people think it's about Kurt Cobain or Courtney Love or maybe its someone letting a relationship go. Either way its still a great tune.
