Ace of Cake

Layer Cake is another film that I missed when it was first big in 2005 so now was as good a time as any to explore this British drug world.

Daniel Craig is a man with no name, who seems fairly smart dealing in the British drug trade. He's made his cash and is ready for one last score but he still has to do the bidding of his superiors. He asked to clean up an "X" deal gone bad and to find the daughter of his bosses boss (played by super wrinkly Michale Gambon). Neither job is appealing or very safe.

There are twists and turns and of course a girl (Sienna Miller) to complicate things. But, Craig seems to have it all figured out. Just notice that even once you get to the end you don't really expect it all to work out. There are just too many people in that kind of world who really don't care about honesty and fairness when shooting is easier.

I enjoyed the story and the subject but I'll admit that I didn't have my Ali G to American translator book handy so that made things a bit hard to follow. I did learn that geezer means "guy" I think. That really was the biggest hurdle for me. If you can get past it you'll really enjoy this one.
